The new Hungarian law on religious "freedom" on the 21st, July 2011 abolished all Muslim "churches" because it recognizes only 11 Christian and 3 Jewish denominations. At the same time a 1916 law of the Hungarian Parliament adopted Act XVII of 1916 which acknowledged Islam as a “recognized religion” has been never withdrawn and this law was not canceled. So the Muslims of Hungary now live under the protection of the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy and Muslim organizations called church still have this name, but not the legal privileges.

After: Presentation of a book "Muslims in Poland and Eastern Europe Widening the European Discourse on Islam" edited by Katarzyna Górak-Sosnowska University of Warsaw Faculty of Oriental Studies (Warszawa 2011).
